Zoey shares why she choose mental health awareness for her project and the difference methods she used to increase awareness.

More from Zoey: I began my journey as a Girl Scout when I was in second grade so I was considered a Brownie at the time. I stuck with the same troop for the next twelve years. I was lucky enough to have had the most kindhearted and influential leaders as well as some lifelong friends. I was able to receive both my Bronze Award and my Gold Award. My Gold Award was a snapshot of my love for mental health and the desire to end the stigma that is around mental health as a whole. I chose to go about the topic of mental health due to being a survivor myself as well as having family and friends who have also fought their own battles with mental health. High school seemed to be the best example of where a lot of the stigma lies which is a huge reason I decided to pursue a subject seen as “ taboo” in the eyes of those in my school specifically. After high school, I decided to continue my education at UNC Charlotte to receive two bachelor’s degrees; one in Criminal Justice and the other in Psychology. I then hope to continue and get a bachelor’s in either area and possibly a Ph.D in the future as well.
