Erica interviewed veterans and wrote a book detailing their stories. She has continued work on her project to bring more awareness to our veterans.

Erica Dunne is a senior at Horace Greeley High School in Chappaqua, NY and a 2021 Girl Scout National Gold Award Nominee. A Girl Scout for 13 years, Erica earned her Gold Award writing a book about local veterans in her community and starting a community-wide Veterans Day celebration to honor their sacrifices. She earned her Silver Award by creating a nutrition book-and-game library for clients at a local food pantry where she continues to volunteer and is now the newsletter’s first teen reporter. Since completing her veterans book, she created an organization, New Castle Veterans, to share the audiotapes of her veteran interviews and raise money for the Wounded Warrior Project. This past November, she started "Stand Up For Veterans,” a virtual event in partnership with the New York State American Legion, urging people across the state and country to sing or play the national anthem on Veterans Day at 7p.m. Outside of Girl Scouts, Erica is a club volleyball player and writer, whose poems and short stories have won national awards. In 2020, she was selected for the Telluride Association Scholarship for summer study at Cornell University.
